Instructional Technologist

George Mason University Information Technology Services (ITS)- located on the Fairfax, Va., campus-seeks a high-energy Instructional Technologist to join its Learning Support Services, Instructional Technology and Media Services team. Responsibilities: The Instructional Technologist will support faculty and instructional designers in the exploration and usage of new learning technologies and provide advice on the best options to meet their learning outcomes/pedagogical goals. The incumbent will assist with integration of these tools into the learning management system (LMS) when applicable. Examples include collaboration tools, Office 365, mobile applications, and WordPress. A focus of the position will be on supporting media needs of faculty from teaching best practices in media creation to assisting faculty to use AR/VR, 3D Printing, etc. The position will also assist the LMS administrators in providing Blackboard and Kaltura support.

Specific duties include: * Explore, research, evaluate, and advise on new and emerging instructional technologies and their effectiveness to improve and/or evaluate student learning; * Work with the instructional designers and learning management system (LMS) administrators to pilot new technologies; * Create and/or adapt professional development materials, documentation, and resources (e.g., self-paced online modules) to provide in person, hybrid, and online professional development resources for faculty; * Assist with the design and delivery of face-to-face instructional technology/design training; * Serve as a consultant to faculty, helping to discover ways to improve and evaluate student learning, and employ technology judiciously; * Provide end-user support to faculty, staff, and students for the learning management system, media systems, and instructional technologies.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in education, educational technology, or multimedia; or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Demonstrated professional work experience in providing direct support to faculty and instructors working to incorporate instructional technologies into courses in an academic setting; * Experience with Blackboard or similar LMS; * Experience with media and video related instructional technologies such as Kaltura, Camtasia, and web conferencing software; * Familiarity with graphic and web design elements appropriate for web-based instruction and learning; * Team player who can participate in collaborative instructional development processes and activities; and * Demonstrated written, presentation, and interpersonal communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications: * Graduate degree in instructional technology/design, e-learning or related field; * Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in instructional technology, online course delivery, and accessibility compliance; * Two years' or more years' experience with use of Blackboard or similar LMS; * Ability to author rich media using Captivate, Articulate, SoftChalk, etc.; * Possess an in-depth understanding of instructional technology issues related to learning in online, hybrid/blended, and traditional courses; and * Demonstrated capacity to work across organizational units to create strong collaborative programs, maximize resources and enhance the work of faculty.

Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m-6:30 p.m. (some flexibility)

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
