Serves in the Wireless Services and Radio Systems Division of the Technology Operations Department in the Office of Technology at the Headquarters Office.
Ensures the effective operation of Airports Authority radio and ancillary equipment and their interface with other Airports Authority equipment and systems. Installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of radio and wireless equipment in the motor fleet and on buildings and property, ensuring that critical public safety radio and wireless systems are available and operational at all times. Performs related duties.
As the Radio and Wireless Systems Technician, you will ensure that the Airports Authority's radio and wireless systems are operational and functioning effectively on a 24/7 basis.
Radio and Wireless Systems Technician
Works under the general supervision of the Wireless Service and Radio Systems Manager.
Serves in the Wireless Services and Radio Systems Division of the Technology Operations Department in the Office of Technology at the Headquarters Office.
Ensures the effective operation of Airports Authority radio and ancillary equipment and their interface with other Airports Authority equipment and systems. Installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of radio and wireless equipment in the motor fleet and on buildings and property, ensuring that critical public safety radio and wireless systems are available and operational at all times. Performs related duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
Seven years of progressively responsible experience in Radio Frequency (RF) technology including installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic and radio communications systems, and programming, tuning, and aligning mobile, portable, and fixed radio equipment.
Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to apply the installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of radios and ancillary equipment.
Skill in the use of tools needed to evaluate and resolve system operating problems and mitigation of possible radio frequency interference.
Knowledge of radio programming and tuning and associated software tools and ability to program, tune, and align mobile, portable, and fixed radio equipment and ensure it is operating within specifications and guidelines.
Skill in using Aeroflex Land-Mobile Radio Test Set, Bird Technologies Site Analyzers, and Motorola R2670 Spectrum Analyzers to perform optimization, and to troubleshoot and repair radio and wireless systems.
Knowledge of and ability to comply with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) technical and operational regulations pertinent to proper radio operation, interference mitigation techniques, and RF engineering.
Ability to provide recommendations on hardware, systems software, and applications software to support radio systems operations.
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Ability to make detailed analyses of data and information and to make recommendations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Electronics Engineering Technology (BSEET), or related field.
Experience working with conventional and trunked radio systems and designing portable and mobile radio subscriber templates for Motorola SmartNet/Smartzone systems.
Certified as a Mobile Solutions Technical Associate from Motorola.
EDUCATION
A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
A state's driver's license in good standing.
NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS
Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.
Work requires light physical exertion (lifting objects up to 10 pounds). May stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in a cramped position or work on ladders.
May be subject to hold over and recall on a 24-hour basis for emergency maintenance.
May be subject to night/weekend work for scheduled maintenance and upgrades.
