Its primary purpose is to manage assets and to conduct business for the benefit of its shareholders, approximately 5,000 people, almost all of Alaska Native heritage. Senior Scientist Position:. This position is a time and effort and may be rotated among several different projects related to the development or amendment of food standards and food labeling assignments. Assignments will have a focus on the application of the knowledge of the principles and practices of food production, food technology, and food chemistry to issues regarding food standards and food labeling. Tasks may include:. Assisting in conducting technical/scientific review and analysis of relevant information and data submitted in support of a citizen petition to either establish, revise or revoke a food standard. Assisting in conducting scientific review and analysis of relevant information that may be utilized to develop or modernize FDA policy on food standards practices. Assisting in the review and issuance of temporary marketing permits (TMPs) for foods deviating from a food standard. Assisting in the review of food standards general principles, theories, practices and precedents as well as the principles and practices of nutrition, and to provide information and analyses needed to assist in the formulation of future policy. Monitoring the status of pertinent regulatory issues and food labeling actions under development and advises FDA staff of progress, problems, or changes. Identifying problems and issues and conducting adequate research to obtain the background, facts, data and current policy on the issue. Evaluating the information obtained and preparing written documents and makes recommendations that may be utilized to develop FDA policy on the issue being studied as well as drafts tentative new or revised policy for consideration by CFSAN/FDA management. Responding to routine as well as more complex requests for input related to food labeling with an emphasis on food science and technology, food labeling, and food standards issues. Minimum Requirements. PhD in Food Chemistry and/or Agricultural Chemistry with a minimum of 4 years industry experience with dairy Product manufacturers in the following areas of expertise:. Food processing - transforming agricultural products in to food or of one form of food into other forms. Food engineering (agricultural engineering, ingredient manufacturing - not food machinery or mechanical engineering). Dairy processing (farm to dairy plant to retail). Food processing effects on nutrition. Food processing ingredient evaluation. Food Label contents. Food Technology. Chemistry (Protein Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, etc.). Food Chemistry. Agricultural Chemistry.
