What You Will Do: Registered Nurse - Substance Abuse Consult Full Time - Day Shift Baltimore, Maryland The Substance Abuse Consultation Service (SACS) provides assessment and referral services to individuals admitted to inpatient medical services at UMMC. The SACS team provides consultation for physicians on individuals who are identified to potentially have a problem related to substance abuse. An assessment by the SACS team is initiated by means of a medical order given by the individual's medical team. Scope and Complexity of Patient Care Needs The major clinical activities utilized to address the needs of these patients are related to the special needs of adults suffering from the disease of addiction: Assistance with detoxification from alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, etc (under supervision of a SACS attending physician) Assistance with arranging after care for addiction treatment Assistance with pain management in drug-dependent patients (under supervision of a SACS attending physician) Brief counseling/ psychotherapy and motivational interviewing Staff education including the training of medical, pharmacy and social work students, residents and fellows as well as members of the UMMC Addiction Service Line. Collaborative with services to promote quality of care for the individuals who are coping with Substance abuse problems. What You Need to Be Successful: Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. BSN or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Certification by American Nurses Association in psychiatric and mental health practice preferred. Minimum of two (2) years clinical psychiatric nursing experience is required. We are an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
