This position is in the Office of Inspector General, Office of Audit.

The Inspector General heads an independent organization responsible for audit, investigation, fraud control, and designated security services related to all Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs and operations.

As the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), we remain an independent and objective organization, conducting and supervising audits, evaluations, and investigations relating to the Department's programs and operations. The following are the duties of this position at the GS-14. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

As an IT Specialist (INFOSEC), you will:

- Advise ISAD management on technology issues, particularly those matters concerning the security of HUD's IT infrastructure and the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data collected, processed, and stored within the infrastructure.
- Develop and implement innovative computer techniques for use in assessing the security of configurations of operating systems, firewalls, routers, switches, and other network devices.
- Evaluate alternative approaches for performing and reporting on reviews, audits, vulnerability assessments, and testing activities such as the use of new or alternative software products.
- Provide auditors, other examiners, investigators and their assistants with technical advice and assistance where the examination of data processing systems or activities are a key aspect of their audit or investigation.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience:
For the GS-9, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

- Applying IT security principles and methods to identify violations. AND
- Utilizing automated tools to participate in identifying IT security requirements.

OR Education: master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.


In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
