POSITION SUMMARY Together with the Special Assistant to the Executive Director, supports the Executive Director and manages day-to-day operations of the Executive Office on matters related to law school deans, key volunteer leadership, allied and other higher education organizations. Provides principal support in the implementation and administration of special projects in pursuit of the goals of the office of the Executive Director. Facilitates the interactions of the Executive Director and staff as they work to implement AALS's mission. Representing the Executive Office, serves as key liaison for communications between the Executive Director and law school deans, and with external organizations. Participates in the execution of short-term and long-term goals and strategies of Executive Director's office, as well as the strategic planning and organizational development activities of the organization. Executive Director Support Responsible for initiating, monitoring, and providing support for assigned activities of the Executive Director's office and periodic review of special initiatives and projects. Assists the Executive Director as needed including, but not limited to, relationships with law school deans, meetings with allied organizations including the Section of Legal Education of the American Bar Association, the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), the National Association of Law Placement (NALP), the National Council of Bar Examiners (NCBE), and with other higher education organizations including the American Council on Education (ACE), and the Washington Higher Education Secretariat (WHES). Collaborates with the Special Assistant to the Executive Director on managing the calendar of the Executive Director, with a special focus on external commitments and special projects. Coordinates the Executive Director's gatherings and communications related to special projects and law school deans. Prepares, disseminates and maintains meeting agendas and materials for meetings hosted or attended by the Executive Director in conjunction with law school deans, and with allied and higher education organizations. Attends these meetings and other gatherings as needed to support those attending and takes notes. Maintains strong knowledge of institutional priorities, policies, and practices. Initiates and maintains strong digital filing practices for the Office of the Executive Director. Serves as technology liaison for the Executive Director's Office to the AALS Tech staff. Collaborates with the Special Assistant to the Executive Director on executive/administrative support functions to the Executive Director to accomplish Executive Office goals. Other duties as assigned. Committee Management Executes support activities related to assigned committees including the Deans Steering Committee and the Deans Forum Planning Committee, among others. Supports appointment process for these committees and ensures maintenance of nominations pool as well as timely execution of nominations procedures. Facilitates ad-hoc appointments made throughout the year. Responds to inquiries regarding committee governance and support. Serves as liaison to volunteer leadership serving on assigned committees. Manages implementing and scheduling meetings (and conference calls) as needed. Prepares correspondence as needed/requested. Facilitates transition of new committee members. Coordinates AALS participation in association and other organizations' meetings. Cross-Departmental Efforts Serves as team co-leader of the Records and History working group. Manages preparation for annual meeting signature events in conjunction with Executive Director, the Publications staff, the Communications staff, and the Meetings staff. Coordinates preparation of scripts for President and Executive Director for the House of Representatives and other signature events. Organizes activities, functions, print programs, and evaluations, where appropriate, involving the House of Representatives, Deans Forum program, and the Deans Steering Committee. Works with the Director of Communications on promoting the organizations priorities, preparing reports for outside groups, and communications to law school deans. Works with the Research Department on research projects. Serves as project manager in the preparation of institutional publications including the Handbook, Proceedings, and Deans Directory.
