AMERICAN GASTROENTEROLOGICAL ASSOCIATION INSTITUTE (AGA) POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Vice President of Finance REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer SUMMARY: The Vice President of Finance ensures the fiscal soundness of the organization, provides business insight and helps to identify the strategic direction of the organization. As a member of the senior team, the vice president also shares responsibility for the vitality of the organization by generating revenue, coordinating cross-departmental projects and building a high-performance culture. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: As the Vice President of Finance, the role will focus on several critical areas: Strategic Financial Leadership In conjunction with the CEO and Senior Team, sets AGA's tone at the top to ensure all financial practices, policies and procedures are properly implemented, adhered to by all AGA staff and that staff understand their role in the organization's financial success. Translates the strategic plan and directives into an effective and efficient financial structure. Leads policy development aimed at safeguarding the organization against all financial and operational risks. In collaboration with the Senior Team, drives strategic thinking and future organizational growth to increase bottom-line financial results. Assesses existing policies and procedures, recommends changes, and implements enhancements to increase AGA's operational effectiveness and profitability. Assists departments in developing their financial plans and budgets. Financial Management Oversees accounting operations, including: A/P, A/R Audits General ledger Budgeting Financial reporting Tax / regulatory compliance Financial forecasting Payroll Internal controls Cash management Monitors, projects and analyzes financial performance. Helps staff and the board to understand the implications. Serves as liaison to the Finance and Operations Committee, Investment Subcommittee, Audit Committee and DDW Finance Committee. Manages relationships with auditors, bank representatives, investment advisors, employee benefit plan administrators, insurance brokers. Leads the annual budget development and ongoing projection process. Monitors monthly and annual budget and financial reports. Assesses and mitigates organizational risk. After completing a risk assessment analysis, works with AGA insurance providers to ensure that the organization is adequately protected against all types of risks with appropriate insurance levels and risk containment controls. Ensures that the investment policy is periodically reviewed and updated and that funds are invested to maximize cash flow and investment earnings. Reviews and approves all contracts to ensure that AGA does not assume an inappropriate amount of risk. Conducts periodic assessments of business practices and workflow to identify improvements. Provides the CEO with recommendations related to new business proposals and Board initiatives. Performs financial analyses; strategizes how to implement initiative(s) and proposed opportunities in effective, yet fiscally responsible ways. Assumes other duties as assigned, commensurate with the scope and responsibility of this position. Compliance Audit - Assesses the organizational controls for audit compliance. Manages the organization's overall relationship with its external auditors. Provides oversight to ensure the financial statements are prepared in compliance with United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Monitors financial accounting standard developments and ensures implementation of all new applicable standards. Tax - Owns overall organization responsibility to ensure all tax related filings are completed accurately and timely. Grant and Policy - Owns overall organization responsibility to ensure compliance with the Uniform Grant guidance as well as all legal, regulatory, and grantor regulations, requirements and policies. Staff Development and Mentoring Mentors and manages staff, supports their professional development and promotes teamwork.
