Our Technical Services Division provides research, development, analysis and field service support to advance the architecting and fielding of advanced sensor systems for ISR and Force Protection missions. Our System Division provide the engineering design, development of complete and integrated solutions from hardware to software for sensors, systems and command and control architecture. MTEQ is seeking an experienced Electro-Mechanical Controls Engineer with extensive knowledge and strong communication skills to join our team of well qualified, diverse individuals at our Lorton, VA engineering center and Corporate headquarters. The successful candidate will join a team involved in the development of electro-optic sensor systems for government and commercial applications. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Design, analysis and testing of stabilized gimbal and precision pointing mirror subassemblies. These may include such components as the gimbal themselves, Inertial Measurement Units (IMU), Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), DSP/Microcontroller control systems, bore sighting and transfer alignment algorithms, motor selection, power amps, and the sensors being stabilized. Create system specifications, perform systems engineering, define system architecture, and develop requirements. Support development of gimbal systems controlled using feedback from optical and inertial sensors such as IMU's, gyros, accelerometers, and lasers. Develop and implement servo control algorithms for various gimbal modes to include scanning, Geo-pointing, step-stare and whiskbroom modes. Full understanding of servo control loop tuning to platform input PSD Perform and lead mechanical designs including: sizing and selection of hardware for gimbal, steering mirror, or similar devices. Create 3D CAD concepts and coordinate detailed design. Develop prototype hardware for demonstration and testing. Develop, simulate, code, test, and integrate new servo control algorithms. REQUIREMENTS: BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent Experience with precision motion and feedback mechanisms Experience with modeling and simulation software, or creation of simulation models using tools such as Matlab and Simulink. Experience with SolidWorks, Pro-Engineer, or similar CAD software Minimum of (5) years of experience in an engineering grade SECURITY CLEARANCE: Ability to obtain security clearance REQUIRED; active secret clearance preferred PRIMARY LOCATION: Lorton, VA SCHEDULE: Full time
