Frederick National Laboratory is dedicated to improving human health through the discovery and innovation in the biomedical sciences, focusing on cancer, AIDS and emerging infectious diseases. The Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (BIDS) directorate works collaboratively and helps to fulfill the mission of Frederick National Laboratory in the areas of biomedical informatics and data science by developing and applying world leading data science and computing technologies to basic and applied biomedical research challenges, supporting critical operations, developing and delivering national data resources, and employing leading-edge software and data science to effectively enable and advance clinical trials. The Strategic and Data Science Initiative (SDSI) program as part of BIDS works collaboratively with the NCI Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT) and among the NCI, NIH, government, industry and academic partners to accelerate strategic advances in the development and application of data science, data management, computational and predictive approaches to biomedical research. The program leads innovative efforts to accelerate biomedical research including application of AI, extended use of high-performance computing, utilizing data science education to build communities of practice, and developing novel and sustainable collaborations across the NCI, NIH, government, industry, academia both nationally and internationally. SDSI has an opening for an IT Project Manager at Frederick National Lab to support strategic initiatives and collaborations with the Department of Energy. KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES Work with the NCI-DOE team to identify goals, tasks, dependencies, risks and risk mitigation strategies in support of the collaboration's strategic and technical goals Leverage technical expertise to benefit the project and client interactions Assist in the development and management of scheduling to anticipate and communicate deliverables and timelines from the DOE labs Collaborate and coordinate with a diverse set of project stakeholders, including BIDS, other FNL directorates, state and governmental agencies, subcontractors and subject matter experts Provide logistical support through scheduling, facilitation, and participation in meetings to support collaborative activities with the NCI, FNL and DOE labs Communicate and disseminate project information and progress through newsletters, blogs, presentations, and other communication channels to the larger community and the project collaborators that are part of the larger strategic initiative Assist with the technical management of IT-related subcontracts Lead development of monthly and ad hoc technical status reports to FNL management, the NCI and other project stakeholders BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a bachelor's degree in a quantitative or technology discipline from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for US equivalency In addition to the education requirements, a minimum eight (8) years of progressively responsible job-related experience Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a master's degree preferred Familiarity with natural language processing projects including familiarity with document annotation and data dictionaries Familiarity with cancer surveillance programs Expected Competencies: Must be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks/projects Ability to work with ease in a fast paced, agile environment Self-motivated and result-oriented, able to handle multiple projects efficiently Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Must be a team player Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) | Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran (M/F/D/V) | Drug Free Workplace (DFW)
