Engineer IV (Electrical Project Engineer) - Facility Engineering-Located at NASA Goddard FUNCTION OF POSITION Versatile electrical engineer primarily engaged in design and analysis of B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Design and analyze electrical wiring, control circuits, receptacles, switches, conduit, motors, invertors, PLC, motor starters, coils and other electrical components. Serve as Project Engineer or Project Manager for select installation, upgrade, maintenance, and remediation projects. This includes project initiation, gathering requirements, planning and estimating, execution, and closing. Provide technical expertise to other project engineers/managers as well. Create and interpret drawings, blueprints, and electrical schematics. Must have significant experience with 120v, 220v, and 480v single-phase and three-phase systems, circuits, and distribution. Read, write and interpret drawings, blueprints and electrical schematics in order to perform system evaluation and cost estimates. Provide technical guidance for engineering technicians performing electrical tasks, including design, planning, material specifications, maintenance, and in-process guidance. Ability to work safely, follow directions and conduct quality and safety inspections. Must understand and follow posted work rules/procedures. May be cross-utilized and cross-trained to support all groups within functional support areas. May also perform other duties associated within area of assignment as directed by lead personnel or management. 9. May also perform temporary duties in other areas or other duties associated within area of assignment. NATURE OF POSITION CHALLENGES Reviews, analyzes and integrates the technical work of others. Ability to adapt to weekend and holiday support on short notice and extended hours as required. SUPERVISOR GUIDANCE Works under the direct supervision of a senior engineer, Lead Personnel or Technical Supervisor. SUPERVISION OF OTHERS Does not normally direct, lead and/or train others unless assigned as a lead.Lead personnel are responsible for providing technical direction and organizing workload. RESOURCES IMPACTED Assignments must be completed using available allocated resources in a timely manner to meet project cost and schedule requirements. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Master's degree preferred. Education or years' experience commensurate with skill level required for position complexity as determined by management. At least eight years direct experience in the electrical engineering field. Project management degree or certification is highly desired, such as MBA or PMP Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the National Electrical Code and local electrical codes. Significant experience designing and analyzing electrical systems ranging from 24VDC to 480VAC in an industrial or commercial setting. Proven in-depth knowledge of related building codes, regulations, and ordinances. Significant experience in project estimation of electrical labor, materials and equipment required. Experience working with variable frequency drives (VFD's) and PLC's is desired Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from Leads, engineering or management. Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of work flow. Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to organize time, assignments and properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be capable of passing required physical examinations and successfully completing assigned training or other required training or certifications as directed by ETIS III management. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION A. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Lift and carry items up to 35 pounds. 2. Ability to use hearing and vision protection. 3. Ability to distinguish eight color panel display. B. WORK ENVIRONMENT 1. Work is primarily in an office setting, plus in lab areas or mechanical room spaces. 2. Work indoors and out in high and low temperatures and in all types of weather conditions. 3. Work with other personnel in a group that is team-oriented. 4. May work in dusty, noisy, hot, high humidity, dirty, and greasy environment. 5. May work in areas where there may be materials that are irritating to eyes, nose, throat and skin while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. 6. Accept and work within established policies and procedures pertaining to company rules and regulations. C. EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASK 1. Man lifts such as JLG, scissor lifts, etc 2. Specialized electrical test and/or evaluation tools 3. Desktop computers utilizing Microsoft Office Suite software including Word and Excel. D. CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE Regular daily attendance and reporting on time is required to maintain shift effectiveness. Overtime (holidays, weekends, scheduled and unscheduled) and shift work may be required.
