The Kennedy Center is the nation's cultural center and living memorial to President John F. Kennedy. Located on the banks of the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., the Center presents more than 2,000 performances each year across all genres, and is also home to artistic affiliates Washington National Opera and National Symphony Orchestra. Job Description:

The Institutional Giving team seeks a passionate and creative fundraiser ready to manage all activities involved in raising funds for (1) the Kennedy Center's Corporate Fund, an annual giving campaign that serves as the one financial instrument for raising and distributing unrestricted corporate gifts, (2) corporate support for major special events, (3) annual foundation, government, and endowment support, and (4) designated funding for artistic and educational programs as required. The incumbent will manage his/her time, resources, and work load to maximize productivity and financial results, exercises discretion, assesses and engage in complex internal and external relationships, and regularly take initiative to advance campaign goals and objectives. This position will supervise and generate work for two Assistant Managers, and two Assistants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

60% Strategic Planning and Fundraising
  • Work with the Vice President of Institutional Giving to develop, plan, and execute annual and long-term goals and strategies for support of the Corporate Fund campaign, including board recruitment, prospect solicitations, and donor stewardship.
  • Manage the solicitation of designated funding to select artistic and educational initiatives, as well as foundation and government grants for general operating support.
  • Develop, plan, and execute annual fundraising strategy for major special events, including the renewal of previous gifts, the acquisition of new attendees, and the stewardship of major contributors with regards to crediting, signage, and benefits

40% Management
  • Supervise two Assistant Managers, and two Assistants in managing fundraising campaigns, as outlined above
  • Provide sufficient training so as to ensure increasing ability for the Assistant Managers to take on complex projects.
  • Participate in all Development Department meetings, planning, and campaign implementation for current or long-term operating and capital purposes.
  • Contribute to the Development Department's strategic planning initiatives through joint leadership and core pillars
  • Actively promote a collegial and collaborative working relationship with all Kennedy Center employees.

Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Four to six years development or related experience required.
  • Experience in a supervisory role is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the performing arts is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of standard financial information and program or project budget preparation, as well as corporate philanthropic and marketing strategies, practices, and trends.
  • Knowledge of and experience with donor databases to manage corporate solicitation information and campaign progress. Ability to foresee corporate annual support opportunities, manage staff workloads, and give attention to detail while at the same time focusing on the long-term perspective.
  • Ability to initiate and cultivate ongoing relationships with current and new prospects through meetings, phone calls and occasional entertaining.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person and on the telephone. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel in order to operate computer keyboard, office equipment, and other essential tasks. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. This position infrequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Occasional need to move equipment, boxes, supplies from office to event space.
