Summary

This position is in the Office of the Associate Administrator, Office of National Programs (ONP), Agricultural Research Service (ARS). The incumbent serves as a Program Support Assistant providing a variety of programmatic and administrative functions, which supports a wide variety of tasks essential to the ONP professional staff.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and arranging travel for the ONP staff
  • Participates in program planning support work, documentation for travel requests, budget coordination/tracking, purchasing/procurement of supplies and equipment, and human resources.
  • Works with the ONP staff coordinating meetings, including arranging logistics, preparing agendas, and notifying participants.
  • Forwarding and retrieving messages and documents electronically such as phone messages.
  • Authorized to use a US Government credit card for micro-purchases up to $4,999, reconciling all purchases through US Bank and entering purchases in the CRIS Allocation Tracking System (CATS).
  • Enter all travel documents, registration fees and purchase card obligations in CATS to generate the Status of Funds for ONP to provide analysis for obligated funds.
  • Assisting with the coordination of research programs by gathering and retrieving data from research databases to help capture, process, and organize data and tasks to ensure effective management of the workload.
  • Maintains several tracking logs and transaction records for budget, purchasing, and personnel actions.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Time in grade: Applicants must have one year at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-14 grade level for consideration for the GS-15 grade level).

Specialized Experience : Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised.

The specialized experience requirements for this position are:Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience providing administrative assistance for an office including arranging travel; preparing or revising official correspondences; and generating administrative data from databases.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
