Bright Beginnings, Inc. is non-profit organization that operates early childhood and family learning centers for families experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to meet the needs of children and families living in homeless environments by: providing children with a safe, nurturing educational environment; preparing children to enter kindergarten ready to learn; and supporting homeless parents to stabilize their home lives and become self-sufficient. Summary: The Development Associate is responsible for the execution of a comprehensive grants program. The Development Associate will assist in providing support to strengthen and expand an already-established fundraising base by identifying new major donors, writing grant proposals, applications, letters of intent and reports, managing the donor database and assisting in the planning of special events. Essential Duties: 1. Assist in writing grant proposals, applications, letters of intent and reports. 2. Identify potential donor prospects. 3. Identify and conceptualize materials to be used for communication to prospects and donors. 4. Assist in the production of annual fundraising events and appeals 5. Maintain and utilize Bright Beginnings' donor database. 6. Research and identify grant opportunities for all Bright Beginnings' programming. 7. Collaborate with finance staff to track and monitor fund disbursement and financial reports. 8. Maintain grant-related reference resources including funder research files, grant application deadlines, grant reporting schedules, and other information as needed. 9. Assist in the establishment of recognition, acknowledgements, and incentives for donors. 10. Assist the Development Manager and the Director of Development with ensuring compliance with the organization's fund development and philanthropic principles, policies and procedures. 11. Adhere to the highest ethical standards in management, governance, and fund development. 12. Convey a professional and positive image and attitude regarding the organization and the not-for-profit sector. 13. Travel locally to attend meetings, trainings, or conduct business offsite. 14. Demonstrate commitment to continued professional growth and development. 15. Advocate, promote and practice cultural sensitivity and responsiveness in all day-to-day interactions. 16. Maintain confidentiality of information at all times. 17. Attend all required individual and team supervision sessions/meetings. 18. Participate in all required professional development opportunities. 19. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: 1. Mission and culture alignment; 2. Baccalaureate degree preferred in English, Communications, Public Policy, or other related field; Master's degree preferred; 3. Two or more years of experience required; 4. Results-oriented with an ability to meet fundraising goals; 5. Prior experience with fundraising events and campaigns preferred; 6. Exemplary interpersonal, public speaking, written and oral communication skills; 7. Excellent attention to detail, ability to organize data, produce reports and meet deadlines; 8. Initiative and ability to problem solve; 9. Possess strong time-management skills; 10. Track record of establishing effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels across teams; 11. Demonstrated flexibility in work settings, maturity of judgment and ability to work collegially; 12. Thorough understanding and working knowledge of donor relations and confidentiality; 13. Strong computer skills with proficiency in Windows-based programs, such as the Microsoft Office Suite. 14. Must have DC local and Federal criminal record clearance, Child Protective Register check status and substance abuse testing; and 15. Documentation of Tuberculin-free condition and health screening on an annual basis. Physical Demands: . Be able to lift 25-30 lbs. . Be able to walk, squat/kneel, sit on floor, see, hear and speak. . Be able to raise objects from a lower to higher location or moving objects horizontally from one location to another. . Be able to sit for extended periods of time in front of a computer. EOE
