Senior Research Associate/Associate Director, Arlington

The George Mason University Schar School of Policy and Government invites applications for a Senior Research Associate/Associate Director. About the Department: The Center for Regional Analysis is the premier university-based regional economic research center in the National Capital Region. In existence for more than 25 years, CRA provides economic and policy analyses to sponsors in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Research at CRA covers a wide range of topics including economic development strategic planning, economic and fiscal impact analyses, housing and labor market studies, economic forecasting, transportation, planning and policy analysis.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will: * Have the opportunity to participate in center research projects (data analysis, writing, graphic design). * Assist the center director in all elements of operations including: * Retrieve data from a wide range of public and private data sources; * Conduct data analyses; * Manage/oversee and maintain data sets; * Write reports and develop graphics for recurring and custom projects; * Maintain, with Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) support, the Center's economic indicator presentations; * Contribute to maintaining the center's web site and e-communications (e.g., listservs and Twitter). * Provide administrative support to assist the center director. (Assist with administrative records, departmental budgets, sponsor meetings, processing travel documents, event coordination.) * Supervise student employees and GRAs; * Interact with sponsors, university leaders/colleagues, business and community leaders, media, and the general public. * Contribute to project management for center research projects, including: * Implementing sponsored research projects to provide high quality, on time research products; * Coordinate with school and university staff on purchases supporting research projects; * Produce research reports; * Assist in the production of social media communications, as needed. * Ensure compliance with university and school policies in personnel practices (for example, time sheet submissions, workplace rules, etc.). * Review and approve employee time sheets when director is unavailable.

At the Associate Director level, additional responsibilities include: * Identifying possible funding sources for the continued financial support of the Associate Director position; * Prepare proposals for potential sponsors including the timely submittal of responses to Requests for Proposals; * Work with faculty across campuses and in collaboration with other universities and organizations as appropriate to further the center's research mission. * Engage in outreach activities, as directed.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree required. Ph.D. or equivalent for associate director position preferred; * Substantial, relevant experience may be substituted for education attainment. * 2 years minimum relevant experience for Senior Research Associate, 5+ years minimum experience for the Associate Director; * Minimum experience levels apply to regional economic research or other topical area directly relevant to the mission of CRA. * Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office products; * Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), telephone skills, and professional presence; * Organized, flexible, able to multitask, and work independently with little supervision.

Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of desktop publishing software; * Familiarity/Competency in statistical software STATA; * Familiarity/Competency with a programming language such as Python, Java, or R; * Familiarity/Competency with pulling online data using an API; * Experience with web publishing.
