Responsibilities

Monitor activity within the gymnasium/weight room/fitness areas. Ensures the facility is maintained in a high state of cleanliness and safety and operates in accordance with local SOP's. Provides cheerful customer service and maintains a friendly, helpful environment. Becomes familiar with the operation of all equipment in the facility and assists the customers with basic usage. Provide safety of weight room customers. Ensures no unsafe techniques or practices are being utilized. Ensure patrons compliance with all facility policies and guidelines. Maintain cleanliness of all weight room and facility equipment.

Washes and dries towels and ensures clean towels are available for checkout to gym patrons at all times. Washes, dries, folds and sorts athletic uniforms.

Monitors cleaning contractors to ensure contracted janitorial work is properly performed. Report performance discrepancies to Semper Fit/Recreation Director for further action. Perform general janitorial duties when necessary to ensure continual cleanliness of facility. Utilizes basic janitorial equipment and supplies.

Monitor patron usage. Checks customer I.D. cards to ensure only authorized personnel are admitted. Ensure that patrons properly sign into the facility. Monitors in-house equipment (basketballs, racquetball equipment, etc.) and ensures that patrons are properly signing for use of equipment. Assist in follow-up of all delinquent MCCS athletic and recreation equipment. Maintains a record of telephone follow-ups and notifies supervisor when further action is necessary.

Makes minor repairs to facilities and equipment. Immediately reports any maintenance problems, material deficiencies, or unsafe conditions to the Semper Fit/Recreation Manager. Prepares written work requests for facility maintenance/repairs. Immediately reports any defective fitness equipment to the Semper Fit/Recreation Director.

Assists with outdoor maintenance by picking up trash and debris, and securing equipment as needed. Assist with the set-up and running of athletic events. Also assist with athletic and recreation facility events as needed.

Provide World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Take action to solve problems quickly. Alert the higher-level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adhere to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adhere to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

Understanding of basic customer service technique. Ability to deal effectively and pleasantly with customers. Knowledge of basic cleaning, janitorial and proper housekeeping techniques. Ability to work with cleaning equipment supplies and operate washers and dryers.

Knowledge of gymnasium/weight room policies and procedures. Basic understanding of use and function of weight room equipment. Understanding of I.D. card differences and relevance to customer eligibility.

Knowledge of safety rules and regulations for fitness and athletic facilities.

Incumbent must be certified in CPR and Basic First Aid.
