The Payroll and Accounting Specialist works to advance NRPA’s mission and vision through a variety of payroll and accounting duties, including the precise and prompt processing of payroll, while supporting the finance function by providing complete, timely and accurate information. The Payroll and Accounting Specialist must exhibit the aptitude needed to cooperate with a team while setting up strong relationships and interactions with all tiers of the organization. The Payroll and Accounting Specialist must also possess proven ability to handle classified information and act with the utmost level of uprightness every time. They must possess outstanding coordinating skills and dexterity in carrying out tasks with utmost attention to detail.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Payroll Processing • Gather and ensure that all information for bi-weekly payroll is entered and evaluated for accuracy, including commissions, bonuses, pay changes, etc. • Coordinate with managers on all aspects of timekeeping through payroll platform • Audit entries for accuracy prior to entering into payroll system. Ensure supporting documentation is accurate and approved • Maintains system integrity and payroll accuracy by staying current with state, federal and/or system updates • Gathers, prepares and analyzes data and reports for monthly financials and annual audits • Effectively manages organization’s payroll affiliated inquiries • Gives suggestions on process enhancement to improve effectiveness • Assists on and completes necessary HR, Payroll and Accounting projects. Accounting Support • Supports the accounting function in daily, monthly, and annual activities, including generating reconciliations, proposing journal entries as needed, assisting with audits and resolving discrepancies • Works with other team members to compile, analyze, and report financial data • Speaks with vendors and suppliers to ensure charges are accurate and payments are received in a timely manner • Maintain W9 documentation and SAM.GOV lookup for all vendors. • Complete ad hoc projects as necessary.

Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or equivalent relevant training and industry expertise preferred • Two to four years or more experience in general accounting and/or processing payroll • Strong verbal and written communications skills • Ability to pull, analyze and organize data into understandable reports that can be used across a broad spectrum of stakeholders • Ability to think strategically about process improvement • High level of accountability, accuracy and efficiency • General knowledge of full accounting cycle • Experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred • Travel expectations are minimal for this position
