Position Summary The Regional Medical Scientist (RMS) is responsible for managing professional relationships with thought leaders, external healthcare customers, and key internal colleagues. The RMS is a field-based member of the medical affairs team and is responsible for communicating non-promotional scientific and clinical information. The position is remotely based and will cover the Mid-Atlantic region (MD, DE, DC, VA, NC, WV, KY, TN). The RMS reports to the Director, Field Medical Scientists. Key Responsibilities Ensure alignment with the RMS team, medical affairs and corporate initiatives Serve as a field-based extension of Global Medical Affairs by supporting the Ascendis Pharma Medical Strategy Maintain high level of education supporting the portfolio/pipeline data and relevant disease states Represent and reflect core communication objectives for medical affairs in all scientific communications Develop strategic plan for engaging key external thought leaders and organizations within geography Strategically identify the scientific exchange needs of Health Care Professionals (HCPs), researchers, and other stakeholders in patient care, establishing strong professional relationships Identify and develop collaborative working relationships with regional and national thought leaders Captures relevant medical insights from HCPs and communicates them to internal stakeholders In addition to engaging with HCPs, ensures a high standard of professionalism to develop and maintain "peer-to-peer" scientific relationships with key thought leaders affiliated with regionally based payers and specialty pharmacies in the area of pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research Uses professional concepts to contribute to development of company's concepts and principles Effectively achieves objectives with creativity Provides timely feedback and insights on emerging clinical/scientific themes and opportunities to internal stakeholders Actively participates on strategic planning teams, providing scientific feedback when needed Establishes productive and compliant relationships with commercial colleagues Provide scientific support at medical congresses to include participation in clinical data presentations, scientific exchange at the medical affairs booth, and internal or external meetings Provides internal onboarding and ongoing medical training for commercial and medical colleagues Reviews promotional and internal training materials for medical accuracy Leverages specifics skills and talents to train and develop medical affairs colleagues Conducts discussions with external investigators to identify/evaluate/manage potential collaborative projects of mutual interest upon approval Engagement and representative for regional investigator-initiated trials (IITs) Liaison with clinical trial operations to ensure success with US clinical trials Provide medical/scientific presentations to both internal and external audiences Ensure understanding and compliance with department policies, procedures related to scientific exchange, and stays updated on relevant corporate policies and SOPs Knowledge, Skills and Experience Doctoral degree (PhD, PharmD, DNP or MD) required Minimum of 8 years pharmaceutical experience as a medical science liaison or equivalent role requiring establishment of peer-to-peer relationships with thought leaders demonstrating expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts In lieu of pharmaceutical experience, physicians who have completed adult or pediatric endocrinology fellowship will be considered Strong oral and written communication skills. Must understand and effectively communicate scientific/medical information to different audiences within the medical community Good organization skills demonstrating strong project management ability Experience working on cross-functional initiatives Clinical trial experience preferred Endocrinology or rare disease experience preferred (to include growth and bone) Must live near major airport hub within geography Must possess a valid driver's license in the state of residence; must possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record Must be able to comply with vendor credentialing requirements imposed by institutions within the assigned geographies, which can include, by way of example only, periodic background checks and drug screening, immunizations, and training, and may vary by institution and change from time-to-time Estimated travel ~50-75% Want to apply?
