Senior Budget and Finance Analyst

The George Mason University, Office of the Provost, seeks qualified candidates for a full-time Senior Budget and Finance Analyst. This position will provide senior level budget analysis, forecasting and development support for the Office of the Provost. This position will also prepare standard and adhoc reports for various audiences internal and external and will ensure that activities and initiatives are in compliance with University Policies and procedures.

Duties: Reporting to the Budget & Finance Manager, the Senior Budget and Finance Analyst will be responsible for:

Budget Development Forecasting and Management * Provide revenue and expense reports that provides trend analysis and year end projections based on history and current data; * Provide analysis for developing/reorganizing budgets; * Manage the position maintenance process; * Ensure the office of the Provost unit organizational structure aligns with the budget organizational structure to ease and aid reporting; * Ensure expenses are paid from appropriate funding sources.

Commitment Management * Identify current budgetary needs; * Ensure proper tracking; * Ensure proper communication to internal and external clients; * Provide reports and analysis; * Make recommendations on how to meet strategic goals.

Payment Management * Review and approve payments made via HR and Purchasing; * Manage all Provost personnel access; * Communicate Commonwealth and University policy and rule changes to Provost Personnel.

Special Projects * Prepare reports and spreadsheets for new initiatives and projects; * Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: * BA/BS degree, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience in budgeting and finance; * Strong communication skills (written and verbal); * Ability to synthesize large amounts of data into easily understood financial reports; * Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with a population of diverse individuals; * Skilled at dealing with problems and finding workable solutions; * Experience pulling reports from various data sources to create easily understood reporting; * Strong organizational and financial skills; * Detail oriented with the ability to provide concise, easily understood summary data; * Intermediate MS Office skills in word processing, excel and access; * Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications: * 3-5 years of relevant experience in budgeting and finance; * College Business Management Institute certificate (CBMI); * Advanced experience working with Excel and Access; * Experience working with University systems such as eVa, Travel and Foundation; * Experience working with Ellucian Banner System; * Experience utilizing Microstrategy reports.
