Grants Administrator

The George Mason University College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) seeks applicants for the position of Grants Administrator. Over the past few years, the college has annually submitted between 78-95 proposals with an associated value of $30M-$50M and has had around $9M in sponsored research expenditures. The college currently has a diverse sponsored research funding portfolio that consists of federal, state, corporate and private foundation sponsored awards.

The Grants Administrator will provide pre-award and post-award support to faculty and staff in the Division of Elementary, Literacy and Secondary Education; Division of Child, Family and Community Engagement; Division of Learning Technologies; Center for Digital Media Innovation and Diversity; Center for Social Equity Through Science Education, Dean's Office and other units as assigned. Duties will include, but are not limited to, assisting with the preparation of proposal packages and post-award project management tasks, processing of financial and human resources transactions, and the reconciliation of grant funds.

Post-Award Support Responsibilities (80%): The primary responsibility of the Grants Administrator will be to provide accurate, timely and professional post-award support services to faculty and staff in the assigned units. The position will be expected to process requests for grant-funded purchases, consultant agreements, hotel and catering arrangements, service agreements, travel requests, honorariums, participant support stipends, wire transfers, research subject payments, tuition waivers, and journal vouchers; prepare job offer letters for wage employees and funding change forms for labor distribution changes; enter EPAFs in Banner; and maintain personnel and financial spreadsheets and records. Another focus of this position is the reconciliation of monthly grant expenditures to ensure all personnel and direct expenditure charges are correct and that all required source documentation and approvals are on file. The Grants Administrator will also assist with post-award project management tasks and attend post-award meetings with the CEHD research administration team.

Pre-Award Support Responsibilities (20%): This position will assist with pre-award and proposal tasks for the assigned units. The range of services includes assisting new and established Principal Investigators in understanding sponsored project requirements; university/agency fiscal policies and procedures; and the review of RFP, application and solicitation requirements. The incumbent will also assist Principal Investigators and the CEHD Senior Research Administrators with the development of proposal budgets; collection of required commitment letters from partners and consultants; completion of required checklists; preparation of cost accounting exemption waiver documents and cost share requests; and any other supplementary sponsor/agency-specific proposal documentation needed for the accurate and timely submission of proposals.

Required qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in a related field with demonstrated experience working in research or grants administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a strong understanding of proposal guidelines and business practices, generally accepted accounting principles and cost accounting standards, and federal 2 CFR 200 uniform guidance; and the ability to effectively interpret federal, state, university and sponsor-specific guidelines, policies and procedures. The individual must be self-motivated, highly organized, possess strong time management skills in order to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, and have the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and work independently and in a team setting are essential in this position.

Preferred qualifications: A GMU Research Administrator Certificate or formal certification in research administration (Certified Research Administrator, Certified Financial Research Administrator, or Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator).
