Registration Services & Operations Specialist

Mission: The mission of Mason's Office of the University Registrar is to serve as stewards of academic information by creating, maintaining, certifying, and protecting student course, degree, and student records.

Position Summary: Implement the academic policy of George Mason University as well as applicable federal and commonwealth laws. Provide high level, customer-oriented services to student, faculty and administrative customers. Balance competing needs of various constituencies as fairly as possible and within the confines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended. Functional areas include academic records, transcripts, certification, domicile appeal, graduation, registration, scheduling, and reports on student data.

Major Position Functions: Update and maintain accurate student academic records, primarily in electronic format. Communicate and solve problems regarding academic policy and procedure as it affects the student academic record. Customer base includes students, faculty and staff. Extensive breadth and depth of knowledge of George Mason University academic policy form the basis for this work. The position is also responsible for enforcing Registrar's Office and University policy regarding various Enrollment Services functions and requires extensive knowledge of federal and state regulations concerning the privacy of student records. The position includes student customer services at a higher level of complexity and sensitivity than those handled directly by Mason Student Services Center or via Patriot Web.

Customer Service: * Provide high quality customer service in all aspects of the position in spite of often difficult and aggressive student and faculty clientele. * Serve as a customer service representative of the Registrar's Office. Provide high quality customer service in all aspects of the position. Say "yes" to customer requests as often as possible, within the bounds of university policy. Listen for the unspoken part of questions or dilemmas. Offer alternative creative solutions. Follow through in a timely manner. Be aware of record confidentiality. Follow FERPA when communicating with students, parents, and faculty.

Cross-functional support: Serve as a front-line Operations representative in the Office of the Registrar. Assist students, faculty and staff with detailed issues related to Registration, Records, Transcripts, and Graduation. Answer initial inquiries regarding Certifications and Domicile.

Secondary Transcript support: Serves as additional support officer for transcript fulfillment and order support. Website edits and print materials support Make necessary edits and changes to the Office of the University Registrar website as needed. Contribute towards form edits and other print materials created by the Operations team.

Required Qualifications: * BA or BS or a combination of education and experience
