Marketing Specialist, Social Media

The George Mason University College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) invites applications for a Marketing Specialist, Social Media to promote our academic programs and recruit graduate and undergraduate students via social media engagement and marketing. CHSS is the educational heart of the University with a strong liberal arts tradition of broad and integrative learning that the faculty support through courses for the Mason Core, as well as for the college's own majors and minors. Responsibilities: The Marketing Specialist, Social Media markets and promotes CHSS departments and programs by managing the CHSS social media presence to build our current and prospective student community, and drive engagement, and applications across our programs. By working closely with both the CHSS marketing and web teams, she/he manages all activities related to organic social media, paid social media and native advertising, and the overall CHSS social strategy. The Marketing Specialist reports to the college's Assistant Dean for Strategic Communications and Marketing, and collaborates regularly with Dean's office staff, the CHSS undergraduate admissions team, and program directors and coordinators across the college, as well as meets with marketing professionals across campus to share best practices and create a collaborative community among Mason's diverse marketing and social media professionals.

Additional responsibilities include: * Managing and creating content for the college's robust social media presence across multiple channels; * Using social media tools to manage, track and publish social media content for program recruiting and event registrations; * Writing and/or proofing written materials to showcase program strengths and unique characteristics; * Posting and managing paid social advertising and reporting on results; * Ensuring ongoing coverage of CHSS news and initiatives and promoting those events on CHSS social media channels.

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in marketing, or social media marketing, or a liberal arts field (with strong social marketing experience), or equivalent training/experience in marketing, communication, English, digital design, or related area; * Experience with social media marketing and understanding of best practices; * Professional demeanor with strong and effective written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with high-level professionals; and * Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in a marketing- or recruiting-related position in higher education; * An understanding of the value of a liberal arts education; * Fluency in tools for digital content creation, such as Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator; and, * Ability to shoot and edit video for campus events a plus.
