Administrative Assistant to the Dean's Office
The George Mason University, School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (S-CAR) seeks an Administrative Assistant to provide administrative and organizational support to the Dean's Office. Responsibilities: The Administrative Assistant will provide daily support for the S-CAR Dean's Office, which includes managing all aspects of scheduling meetings (coordinating calendars, room reservations, and assisting with other event logistics); communicating schedule changes, performing routine office management (serving as back-up receptionist, answering phones and directing queries, managing electronic communication, ordering office supplies, and maintaining supply inventory); assisting with special projects at the direction of the Dean or Associate Dean. The administrative assistant will also serve as the unit's travel coordinator and make travel arrangements, and prepare reimbursements for senior members of the Dean's office. This position will provide support (logistics, agenda's minutes) for the School's Advisory Board, Executive Committee, Promotion and Tenure Committee and Faculty Board. This position will also support the Dean's office in coordinating and planning fundraising events and will participate as a full team member in other major school activities, including graduation celebrations. Schedule flexibility may be occasionally required to accommodate the office's events or initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced office prioritizing and managing multiple tasks accurately; experience with calendar management; commitment to customer service; innovative problem-solving skills; demonstrated skills in proofreading, and written and oral communication; demonstrated ability to manage projects with extensive attention to detail and expectation of quality; experience communicating and interacting with constituents at diverse levels of an organization; and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications: Background in the social sciences, particularly peace and conflict studies; a couple of years of direct work experience; and experience in a higher education setting.
