We are seeking a motivated Unix or Linux System Administrator to work in a dynamic research environment. This position will provide support for number of research projects involving a wide variety of servers and networking hardware. Specific experience with all systems and software is not required, however it is essential that you have the ability and desire to learn new things and adapt to an environment which is very different than a traditional IT environment. The position will be part of a small team at the Naval Research Laboratory's Center for Computational Science. This teams supports systems ranging from desktops to High Performance Computing clusters in a heterogenous environment. What you'll do Provide daily system administration support for a research environment Participate in system infrastructure design Work both in a team and independently Y ou'd be a great fit if Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience. Additional experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree. Hands-on system administration experience in Linux/Unix based operating systems. Solid understanding of Linux/Unix operating system internals and concepts. Knowledge of one or more scripting languages including Python, Perl or shell. Ability to automate system administration tasks. Demonstrated ability to build and support open source software in a collaborative environment with source code management. Network file system administration. Capable of writing documentation and Standard Operating Procedures. Strong inter-personal and communications skills. Ability to work both in a team and independently and to manage time effectively. It'd be even better if you Hands-on experience in Redhat or CentOS. Experience with distributed file systems including OpenAFS, Auristor, and Lustre. Programming and debugging a high-level language. C is desirable. Familiarity with Git. Writing, customizing, or debugging SELinux policies. Kerberos and PKI. Configuration management in Puppet or Ansible. HPC environment exposure as a user or system administration. Experience with MacOS. Experience debugging TCP/IP networking protocols. Familiarity with DISA STIGs, RMF, and the DoD Certification and Accreditation (C&A) process.
