About the Position: This position is located at the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in the Director for Surgery, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Women's Health Clinic. This work requires some moderately heaving lifting (e.g. assisting patients, lifting and moving medical equipment); with extended periods of standing, sitting, and stooping.

Responsibilities

• Identifies normal and abnormal patient conditions, identifies problems, implements nursing orders, and conducts nursing intervention as prescribed and within scope of practice.
• Performs all treatments and nursing procedures associated with patient care as directed, indicated, and/or prescribed.
• Prepares patients for procedures and assists with tests and examinations.
• Provide patient education on health promotions and disease management.
• Input data into the computer and retrieves information such as laboratory and diagnostic procedure results.
• Prepares and administers prescribed medication through oral, rectal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular routes.

• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
• Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
• This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons
• This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• This position has been designated as Mission Essential and the incumbent must assume essential personnel status during inclement weather/emergencies.
• This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Childcare Background Check (due to regular contact with children or adolescents).
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Licensure: Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia or must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Candidates that do not currently have a license but have applied for one must furnish the date which you applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved.

Experience: One year of nursing experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as: taking vital signs; triaging patients via phone or in person; performing routine injections and medication administration; and utilizing health care information systems to input patient data/schedule appointments such as Composite Health Care Systems (CHCS), Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA).
