Gilbert Employment Law, PC (GEL), a mid-sized firm located in downtown Silver Spring, MD, seeks a full-time Paralegal to provide litigation and administrative support on a broad range of civil rights/employment litigation cases, in both the public and private sectors, serving national and international clients. Qualified candidates must provide both a current resume and cover letter detailing their interest in the position, and should be prepared to submit employment references and/or a writing sample upon request. The qualified applicant for this position is detail-oriented, highly motivated, and able to manage multiple deadlines at once. Salary: $18.00 to $19.00 /hour Responsibilities Assist several attorneys with individual cases and docket management; Assist in detailed document review for discovery production in complex litigation; Calculate, calendar, and track upcoming deadlines, including updating case files with these deadlines and following up with attorneys periodically to assist with assignments related to those deadlines; Maintain detailed and organized client records, including reformatting and saving documents, updating and archiving records, and communicating on a daily basis with attorneys and clients regarding these records; Draft short correspondence and email communications to clients, attorneys, and internal staff members; Gather basic information from clients and potential clients relating to their legal claims and damages; Track and follow-up with different forums regarding the status of a case; and, Other litigation support duties include: frequently communicating with clients, scheduling and conducting witness interviews, preparing for and assisting during client meetings, scheduling, preparing and assisting during discovery, depositions, hearings, trials, arbitrations or other court proceedings, performing legal research, and emailing, mailing, and faxing case-related documents. This position occasionally requires paid overtime and travel out-of-state. Qualifications Must have excellent written and verbal communications, including providing good client relations; Must be proficient at proofreading, editing, and formatting documents; Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment with different personalities and varying schedules; Must be able to read and annotate large or voluminous sets of documents, including medical and payroll records; Must be proficient at taking notes quickly either by hand or typing; and, Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat * An Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, and/or 2-3 years of related work experience are required. Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is a plus, but not required.
