Summary

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Office of the Chief of Staff. As a Writer-Editor, you will be serving as NARA's liaison with the media and the general public and is also responsible for the production of periodicals, speeches and other communications materials for both internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

As a WRITER EDITOR, you will:

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

- Develop, research, and write articles for publications; Edit and evaluate articles written by others for content, focus, grammar, and style.
- Work closely with other NARA Offices and their executives to provide clear communications about the priorities and activities of those offices. Draft, edit, and publish NARA Notices, including evaluating for content, focus, grammar, style, and plain language.
- Oversee and manage all stages of production material on NARA's social media pages, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram (external) and ICN (internal). The incumbent is responsible for the design and content of those pages.

  • Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

    For the GS-12, you must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
    - Developing effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations; AND
    - Editing, standardizing or making changes to material wordy, technical, complex, dense, or routine material, in accordance with standard style guidelines, to produce communications products; AND
    - Experience using specialized tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram (external) and Social intranet. AND
    - Experience developing, researching, and writing articles for publication.


    For the GS-11, you must have one full year, (52 weeks) of experience at the GS-09 level or equivalent in other public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position as listed above and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes:

    - Continue working relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations; AND
    - Editing and making changes to material wordy, technical, complex, dense, or routine material, in accordance with standard style guidelines, to produce communications products; AND
    - Experience using specialized tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram (external) and Social intranet. AND
    - Experience researching, and writing articles for publication.

    OR

    A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field of study that included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field (s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position, i.e. tax law. OR Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a graduate degree in a field of study that included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position, i.e. tax law. One year of graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.

    For Grade 11:
    You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
