This facilitator position of Family Engagement Meetings is located in the Family Engagement Program, based in the Fairfax office and facilitates throughout Fairfax County with occasional out of county assignments. Utilizing family engagement practice, this position works with families who are involved with Children, Youth and Families, external stakeholders such as Court Appointed Special Advocates, Guardian Ad Litem's and other service providers. Implements/facilitates Family Engagement Meeting processes in which extended family members/supports and community partners are brought together to develop a plan for the safety, stability and wellbeing for the children and youth in their family. This position also facilitates Family Partnership Meetings for Healthy Minds with Fairfax Agencies, to include the Community Services Board, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Fairfax County Public Schools and Falls Church City Public Schools. Demonstrating a strengths based approach, guides the process of team based planning and the creation of actionable plans which may include making alternative care and placement arrangements for children and youth, identifying services for support to primary and extended families so their children can remain within their family, or expediting reunification from foster care and permanency planning for older youth. Performs other duties as assigned to support the work of Children, Youth and Families. This may include occasional case carrying assistance to CPS and PPS and serving as adjunct case reviewers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include: Knowledge in case review; ability to understand team base planning and group dynamics; and knowledge of child welfare practice.

Note: This position requires weekday after-hours involvement.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus three years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Contingent upon the area of assignment, some positions within this class may require specific certification(s) prior to employment and/or the ability to acquire necessary certification(s) within a specified time period following employment. The certifications are identified in the position description and employment advertisement .

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Driver's license (required upon hire).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Appointee must complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
  • Driver's license or ability to efficiently access other means of transportation in order to visit clients in their homes and to meet with community service providers.
  • Some positions may require oral and written bilingual competency in English and a second language.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in social work (MSW) or related human service degree.
  • Experience in child welfare case management (e.g. foster care to include permanency for older youth, child protective services, and child abuse and neglect prevention).
  • Family Engagement practice experience to include team base planning meetings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sufficiently mobile to travel within Fairfax County and neighboring jurisdictions. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Must be able to lift laptop, projector and associated meeting facilitation equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
