Job Announcement

This opportunity is based in the Pennino Building in Fairfax, Virginia. Assists in providing comprehensive services (i.e. education, health, nutrition and family services) to children and families enrolled in the Early Head Start Family Child Care Program. Provides support services through bi-weekly visits to family child care provider homes. Individualizes support to fit provider's unique strengths, needs, and learning style, focusing on such areas as curriculum implementation, positive adult-child interactions, developmentally appropriate learning experiences, and healthy and safe environments for infants and toddlers. Responsible for case management and documentation using the ChildPlus software system, recruitment and enrollment of income eligible families, tracking of health requirements and the provision of family services. Provides training and technical assistance to Early Head Start designated family child care providers. Duties are performed under the supervision of the Head Start Coordinator.

Schedule: Some evening and weekend work may be required to satisfy program requirements.

Illustrative Duties

  • Assists providers with improving the quality of their child care environments by providing them with information on child development and child care issues;
  • Provides training and technical assistance to family day care providers;
  • Monitors education screening and assessments of children;
  • Conducts research and gathers data for the development of training and program materials;
  • Recruits new family day care providers to meet child care needs throughout the county;
  • Conducts outreach activities and holds informational sessions with potential providers;
  • Provides orientation sessions for program participation;
  • Educates parents on types of available care and assists with placements in family day care;
  • Prepares monthly reports for assigned geographic area;
  • Participates in gathering information for grant proposals;
  • Writes articles for newsletters;
  • Assists with special programs that foster Office for Children programs.


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the basic principles, concepts, and methodology of assigned area of accountability;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to keep current on the latest theories of early childhood development and education;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, psychology, social work, or a closely related field; plus one year of experience in school age and/ or early child development programs.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee must complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. Appointee must also complete a Tuberculosis Test at time of employment and every two years thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working with subsidy programs.
  • Excellent oral and writing skills.
  • Experience in child care administration, early child development programs or working with families with low incomes.
  • Demonstrated experience handling caseloads/doing caseload management.
  • Experience providing training and guidance to child care center staff and family child-care providers.
  • Proficiency in using human services database(s)/automated system(s).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical requirement needed to perform essential duties. Must have sufficient mobility to interact appropriately with infants and toddlers. Ability to independently operate a motor vehicle and travel throughout the county to family child care provider homes to meet with families and community agencies. Ability to use automated technology and input, access and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit and type on a keyboard. Ability to to lift 30-50 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
