Summary

Serves as medical officer and authority who collaborates with CDC, State and local researchers and provides medical and health services research expertise in developing, monitoring, and revising study protocols, data collection instruments, questionnaires, and related documentation for new and ongoing projects for the prevention of diseases. Reviews organization and data collection methods of project sites to ensure that standardized protocols are properly implemented.

Responsibilities

As a Physician (Public Health), you will:

• Provide expert medical consultation to Branch members and others within the Division on a broad range of topics, as needed, for planning new survey content and evaluating ongoing projects.
• Plan and implement NHANES content, such as blood pressure measurement, to produce national prevalence estimates of conditions of public health importance. Monitor data collection for quality and write specifications for data release.
• Work with various funding collaborators to ensure data collected and results produced meet with collaborator expectations. Review data quality, analyze survey data, provide technical consultation and advice to data users and colleagues, and potentially serve on inter-agency working groups related to cardiovascular health.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals or NCHS reports.
• Present research activities at professional conferences and meetings.
• Collaborate with other researchers within and outside of NCHS.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) https://www.ecfmg.org/ , a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Three years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service implementing and evaluating medical activities related to public health programs.
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position which include experience developing, monitoring, and revising study protocols, data collection instruments, questionnaires, and implementing and evaluating medical activities related to public health programs for new and ongoing projects for the prevention of diseases.
