Responsibilities

As a Supervisory Social Science Analyst, you will:
  • Provide staff support to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Assistant Secretary for PD&R, and principal staff in the resolution of major, cross-cutting policy issues arising in the Department's budget formulation process.
  • Provide policy analyses of the urban impact of policy and programmatic initiatives, legislative initiatives, the budget, and on-going programs and policies of the Department and other Federal agencies, which have an impact on HUD programs.
  • Serve as focal point within PD&R for inter-and intra-agency coordination of policy and program development.
  • Make changes within the office in the organization of work and assignments of functions; adjust workloads and planning to meet workload changes; and propose revision in staffing levels or in work priorities and deadlines.
  • Prepare and report to the Assistant Secretary estimates of the PDD's budgetary requirements.

The Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R) is responsible for providing advice and information to the Secretary to further his policy agenda; for maintaining current information to monitor housing needs, housing market conditions, and the operation of existing programs; and for conducting research on priority housing and community development issues.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Basic Requirements:
Degree: behavioral or social science ; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

To be qualified for this position at the GS-15 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level, or equivalent, which is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and has equipped the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully. Specialized experience is defined as follows
-
Interpreting and applying policies, housing and community development laws and regulations; and
-
Providing direction and solutions to managers or policy stakeholders on housing and community development issues; and
-
Overseeing a staff that drafts analyses which evaluate the impact and significance to a department's budget of new or revised legislation, polices, procedures, and program requirements related to housing assistance, community and economic development.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
