Summary

This position is located in the Office of Analysis for South Asia in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR/SA). INR/SA is responsible for the review and analysis of classified, unclassified, and open source materials concerning the political, economic, social, military, and foreign policy of the countries of the South Asian region as well as the U.S. international relationships and interests with these countries.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an intelligence research analyst providing all-source intelligence analysis on Indo-Pacific countries, including India and Pakistan leadership dynamics.
  • Drafts, presents, and defends policy-relevant intelligence analyses for the Department, the Intelligence Community, and other interagency officials.
  • Informs Department policy bureau customers on breaking and routine intelligence developments in the portfolio and advises on the significance of these developments.
  • Briefs senior policymakers as well as senior members of the Intelligence Community both orally and in writing.
  • At the GS-12 level, the incumbent performs essentially the same duties as outlined above. However, the scope and complexity of assignments are of less responsibility and independence and receives closer than normal supervision than the GS-13 level.

APPLYING FOR THE GS-12:

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience producing policy-relevant analytic assessments for senior level foreign policymakers based on all-source intelligence related to Indo-Pacific countries including India and Pakistan as they bear on U.S. national security and foreign policy interests.
  • Experience coordinating the production of analytic assessments based on all-source information surrounding issues related to Indo-Pacific countries including India and Pakistan as they bear on U.S. national security and foreign policy interests.
  • Experience preparing and delivering oral presentations to senior-level foreign policy makers based on all-source intelligence surrounding issues related to Indo-Pacific countries including India and Pakistan as they bear on U. S. national security and foreign policy interests.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-12 position.

  • Experience coordinating and leading, the production of analytic assessments based on all-source intelligence related to issues in Indo-Pacific countries including India and Pakistan as they bear on U. S. national security and foreign policy interests.
  • Experience preparing and delivering oral briefings to senior-level foreign policy makers based on all-source intelligence related to issues in Indo-Pacific countries including India and Pakistan as they bear on U. S. national security and foreign policy interests.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.

  • Knowledge of the realm of Foreign policy / international affairs.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate information derived from a variety of sources.
  • Skill in producing all-source intelligence analytic articles and assessments.
  • Knowledge of Asian Studies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain liaison with officials throughout the foreign affairs and national security communities.
