The American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a public policy think tank in Washington, DC, seeks an entrepreneurial, service-oriented team player to become our next marketing assistant. The marketing assistant will support AEI's communications and outreach goals by helping manage the Institute's marketing automation system, Marketo.

Primary responsibilities include devising custom automated event and email programs, modifying email templates using CSS and HTML, troubleshooting issues with Marketo, and training employees in Marketo best practices.

We are searching for someone enthusiastic about helping others by using marketing technology to make manual marketing processes more automated and efficient. The ideal candidate will have experience with Marketo or a similar email marketing or marketing automation platform, preferably in a nonprofit environment. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are crucial. A highly organized, service- and detail-oriented personality with strong logic, analytical, and problem-solving skills is essential. Experience with Salesforce is a plus. An interest in public policy and a commitment to the principles of expanding liberty, increasing individual opportunity, and strengthening the free enterprise system are beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Help manage and support daily a Marketo instance with 60+ users
• Collaborate with internal teams to translate their needs into a custom email or event program
• Continually train new employees on best practices and create procedures to complement those trainings
• Design custom email templates that are compatible with Marketo using CSS and HTML
• Work with Marketo support team when troubleshooting issues
• Monitor Marketo database and Marketo-Salesforce sync
• Help train and mentor the CRM & Marketing Systems department intern(s)
• Import contacts into Marketo for lead generation projects
• Build Marketo forms and landing pages using custom CSS
• Promote user adoption through mentoring existing users and cultivating a team of power users embedded across AEI business and research departments

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, communications, or a similar field
• Up to two years of experience with an email marketing or marketing automation system, preferably Marketo
• Ability to translate sales-based marketing strategies into a nonprofit environment
• HTML and CSS experience
• Adobe Illustrator and Dreamweaver experience
• MS Office proficiency, especially Excel
• Team player
• Superior written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Salesforce experience preferred
