Summary

This position is located in the Persian News Network (PNN) of the Voice of America. Incumbent is assigned to the Central News and Production Unit (CNPU) within PNN. He or she may be assigned to work on any program being broadcast by PNN. Serves as a Producer responsible for the flawless on-air execution of live Persian television programs, including the production of high quality packages.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Creates a rundown, times the segments, and line produces live, digitally recorded, or taped shows.
  • Ensures that all the production elements, packages, graphics and chyrons in the show are accurate and shown in order.
  • Coordinates production elements in a timely fashion.
  • Communicates vital program/production information, e.g. satellite placement, requests for live, digitally recorded, and taped studio facilities and crews, and coordination with set and graphic designers as well as technical and show directors, and the language versioning staff.
  • Works closely with the Executive Producers and Managing Editors to provide input and advice as to the best format or method to achieve the program objectives.
  • Keeps abreast of the media climate in the target region to ensure the competitiveness of TV and radio programming in the marketplace.
  • Regularly reviews programming and advises on aesthetic look and quality of television packages.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service, or GS-11, which is directly related to this line of work, AND must be bilingual in Persian and English languages in order to produce Television shows in the Persian language along with being able to line produce and communicate with anchors.

Specialized Experience: is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience includes: knowledge of the latest techniques and processes of digital television production and live satellite broadcasting including breaking news; and wide knowledge of all modern production, editing principles and practices, to direct the development and production of complex television programs in the Persian language; including a demonstrated knowledge of national and international news events and trends in order to effectively direct a live, digitally recorded, or pre-taped news or public affairs program.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

1. If you are an eligible Inter agency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) applicant, you may apply for special selection over other candidates for this position.
