Director, Coalition Building and Diversity Education

The George Mason University, is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person for the Director of Coalition Building and Social Justice Education is a part the collaborative Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team that works with campus partners to foster an inclusive campus climate through the engagement, enrichment, and education of the George Mason Community. The position is convener for a range of partner offices and programs in efforts to create more inclusive, thriving learning environment for George Mason. The Director works in direct connection and collaboration with the Associate Dean for University Life, and the Assistant Dean/Director for ODIME & LGBTQ Resources +.

This position is responsible for: * Serve as member of the Associate Dean for University Life's leadership team. * Provide leadership and supervision to the Coalition Building and Diversity Education unit with University Life. This includes the hiring, training, development, and supervision of professional and student staff. * Provide expertise in the development and facilitation University Life diversity training and education programs including the Mason National Coalition Building Institute affiliate and the Inclusive Learning Communities workshops. * Develop, implement, and coordinate programs, services, and initiatives that support the work of the George Mason University Campus Climate Committee. * Collaborate with key campus and community stakeholders (including but not limited to Center for Advancement of Well-Being; Human Resources, Compliance Diversity, & Ethics, Continuing and Professional Education; Faculty Diversity, Inclusion, and Well-Being) in the development and advancement diversity, inclusion, well-being, and conflict resolution initiatives. * Develop and oversee division-wide diversity, inclusion, and well-being education and training initiatives for students and staff. This includes but it not limited to coordinating the University's National Coalition Building Institute initiative. * Examine climate studies, demographic data, institution policies, and other data sources to enhance diversity and inclusion initiatives. * Coordinate the bias incident reporting and response process and responses to each report until an appropriate resolution has been reached and approved by the Associate Dean. * Serve as the University Life designee for issues of Freedom of Expression and Free Speech, coordinating/facilitating educational programming as appropriate. This includes coordinating responses to Freedom of Speech Disruption reports. * Work in collaboration with campus partners to coordinate University Life response to campus activism and demonstrations. * Provide assistance to students in confronting discrimination and marginalization on campus. * Coordinate mediation and intervention, when appropriate between groups with differences around personal or cultural identities, experiences, or perspectives. * Serve as the University life liaison to individuals/entities who desire to engage in, and respond to activism on campus. This includes maintaining an ongoing database of campus activism, hate groups, and controversial campus issues. * Establish/oversee institutional practices and responses to campus-based activism. This includes programmatic responses to local, state, and national issues. * Work with campus partners to implement special diversity, inclusion, and equity program collaborations that serve the broader mission of the division, and University. * Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have a Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or related field and previous higher education experience. The ability to engage diverse communities in problem solving strategies, interpersonal and/or group conflict resolution skills. A commitment to the principles of freedom of expression and free speech. The ability to apply qualitative and quantitative assessment practices.
