Assistant/Associate Professor of Counseling

Responsibilities: Teaches across multiple areas, with a focus on school/educational counseling and mental health counseling.  Curriculum instruction and program development; student advisement; assisting with field practica; collaboration with colleagues; active scholarship and grantsmanship/fund-raising; contributing to the program, department, university, and surrounding community. Instructional responsibilities may include teaching graduate courses such as Introduction to School Counseling, Counseling Children and Adolescents, Counseling Theory and Practice, Drug and Alcohol Counseling, Principles and Philosophy of Counseling Appraisal, Evaluation and Assessment. A strong commitment to understanding diversity and cultural proficiency in the field is a plus. The candidate must be willing to work evenings and some weekends. This is a full-time tenure track faculty position to start in January 2020. 

Qualifications: Ph.D. or an Ed.D., in Counseling in the areas of School Counseling and/or Community Mental Health Counseling, and/or Counselor Education and Supervision, or a related area from a program approved by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Otherwise, the candidate must have taught full-time in a counseling program prior to July 1, 2013. Minimum four (4) years (part or full-time) experience in a school/educational setting and/or in higher education preferred. Willingness to be flexible in teaching schedule. A history of teaching courses in the specialty area and an active program of teaching and research in school, educational and/or mental health counseling is highly desirable, along with a strong interest in teaching related courses. Candidates must demonstrate strong commitment to graduate education and provide a record of potential effectiveness in teaching, scholarly research, and community outreach. Licensed or licensed eligible in Maryland and/or certified school counselor. 

Conditions of Employment: Position may require teaching in the evenings and/or weekends.
