Job Description:

Graduate Educational Specialist for The High School Project October 2019 A Graduate Educational Specialist for Alexandria City Public Schools supports the implementation of 21st Century instructional programming for the ACPS The High School Project and specifically a newly envisioned T.C Williams High School program of study and instructional delivery methods. This position also assists with providing academic insight and feedback for other aspects of ACPS secondary instruction, as required and applicable to The High School Project.

Qualifications:
  • Working towards a Master's degree in education from an accredited college or institution.
  • Advanced Professional Certificate w/Admin I endorsement, preferred but not required. Three years of teaching experience, preferred but not required.
  • Experience in planning and delivering training and professional development.
  • Progression of leadership experiences and/or responsibility over time.
  • Ability to serve as a team member for innovative projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make effective presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Proficient knowledge and use of technical computer tools and applications including Microsoft Office.

Essential Functions:
  • Supports the guidance of identified school communities through a visioning process to determine a new academic focus area and climate supports for the school in their new/renovated building.
  • Works with identified school communities to create and implement a comprehensive plan for the realization of the academic focus area.
  • Coordinates and facilitates professional learning for various instructional approaches.
  • Supports school teams with the development and implementation of school-based technology plans.
  • Works collaboratively with the Instructional Technology and the Special Education Instructional Technology teams to develop and implement ongoing technology integration training for teachers and administrators.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with a wide range of district staff, school stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Assists with the review of building plans, as is applicable, at all levels and supports the coordination of this effort with specific academic offices depending on the programming of the school.
  • Assists with the review of all furniture plans and supports the facilitation of school and program visits for specialty spaces.
  • Works collaboratively with the Community Engagement Teams, Educational Design Team and Industry Advisory Boards to ensure consistent and transparent communication with school communities around the TC Williams expansion and the Connected High School Network model.
  • Assists in building the school programming to support instruction and a positive school climate in multiple TC Williams High School locations/campuses.
  • Responsible for helping to establish continuous improvement methods of instructional programs as guided by current research and development.
  • Develops and implements processes for evaluating the effectiveness of implemented programs.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and the professional standards.

Accountabilities:
  • Provides appropriate and timely support for the identification and implementation of academic focus areas at ACPS.
  • Able to identify and participate in delivering high quality professional training and development that is engaging and immediately applicable for the identified audience.
  • Provides professional and courteous service to all ACPS stakeholders to include staff, parents, students, partners, and community members and partners.
  • Meets established goals and objectives for allocated projects within the designated timeframe.

Clearances:
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
