Responsibilities
The Director of the Conference Program office manages and leads a team of conference specialists and serves as the primary NIST contact for internal and external stakeholder relations for conferences, symposia, and other NIST-wide meeting services. The candidate leads the agency's Conference Program Office in supporting NIST's scientific and technical collaborations and dissemination activities, special events, and participates in strategic planning for these activities.
The candidate represents NIST and interacts on the agency's behalf with external and internal VIPs and other important stakeholders. The candidate provides ongoing policy, budgetary, and outreach advice on all aspects of meetings services for conferences both in-person and virtual, including large events with 500 or more attendees. The candidate develops procurement packages for and oversees contracted services to obtain venues, catering, and other services for off-site conferences and events.
Travel Required
25% or less - To conduct conference planning, coordination, and oversight of contractors. This includes the CONUS and OCONUS.

This position is open to current Department of Commerce employees, CTAP/ICTAP eligibles, National Service members, and SAA eligibles.

Time-in-grade/band requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement unless eligible for special hiring authority, reinstatement eligible, non-current Federal employee applying as a VEOA eligible which do not require time-in-grade/band.
Qualifications
Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level (ZA-III at NIST) in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience planning and organizing government conferences, serving as an expert in and providing guidance on policy, budget, and outreach for in-person and virtual conferences of up to 500 in attendance, and developing procurement packages for and overseeing and monitoring these services as a COR Level l.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
