The Lourie Center for Children's Social & Emotional Wellness is a private, non-profit agency with a mission to improve the social and emotional health of young children and their families through prevention, early intervention, education, research and training. The Lourie Center has four core programs serving children birth through age 12 and their families: Head Start, The Lourie Center School, The Therapeutic Nursery Program and Parent-Child Clinical Services.

The Teachers Assistant:
provides individual and small group instruction to children in the LCS program
Assists the teacher in the development and preparation of materials for classroom use
Prepares and cleans up the classroom as per the demands of the curricular task and needs of the children in the program
Assists the teacher in the formulation and implementation of psycho-therapeutic and behavior management strategies for the children in the program. Conducts Functional Behavior Assessment on all classroom children and develops a Behavior Intervention Plan
Assists the classroom teacher in developing Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plans
Available to any crisis that may occur in and out of the classroom
Available to restrain a child in the child control position
Reads the reports and IEPs of children in the class
Records observational data on student behavior with the teacher's and interdisciplinary team's input
Participates in the school's interdisciplinary team meetings and selected Lourie Center staff meetings
Continues professional education in special education or a related discipline by attending internal or external workshops, conferences, and/or coursework at the university level
Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher and Directors. In the teacher's absence the teaching assistant assumes the role and responsibility of the teacher as discussed in advance
Must be able to interact positively with other LCS members
Must have the ability to relate positively and sensitively to LCS children
Special competence is required in identifying and managing the needs of children with disabilities

Qualified candidates will possess:
Bachelor's degree in education, child development, psychology or related discipline.
Basic knowledge of child development is required.
Minimum of one year work experience with special needs children (i.e. school, camp, counselor, child care work, college practicum experiences, etc).
Active BLS CPR card
