Responsibilities

Responsible for the following: Supervision and Personnel Management; Work Planning; Safety and Security; Interpersonal Relationships/Organizational Support; Administrative and Support Functions

Performs the following duties and tasks on a daily basis:

Plans weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates. Incumbent establishes deadlines and priorities based on general work schedules and methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision.

Makes plans for equipment and materials required to accomplish each work assignment Selects workers and assigns tasks to be performed. Ensures that work is assigned to employees in ways that effectively use their skills without discriminatory practices. Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures; instructs subordinates in new procedures; and provides advice when problems arise. Reviews work in progress or on completion.

Develops performance standards, counsels' employees on performance, and makes formal and informal performance appraisals; reviews job descriptions for currency and accuracy and makes necessary changes; reports detailing of employees to jobs other than their own. Interviews candidates for vacancies and recommends selections. Number of sick leave hours used, number of AWOL, and Leave Without Pay. Prepares and submits Employee Accident report forms in accordance with medical center policy. Keeps daily time and leave records. Insures that all attendance and performance problems are dealt with immediately through conducting employee leave reviews on a need be basis.

Performs other directly related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm.The position may require the incumbent to work nights and weekends and tours of duty may be changed with proper notice according to the Medical Center's needs.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards .

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent carries a phone responding to each call upon receipt and is on call during the entire tour of duty; must coordinate activities between these physical distances, adjusting work operations more difficult. I

Must be able to work under stressful conditions typical to the hospital environment. Must be able to meet deadlines, work with others and to adapt to often quick changes in assignments and procedures as necessary to get the work completed. Often position must work in confined and poorly ventilated areas, both inside and outside. Mechanic is subject to working in all types of weather including inclement weather as position is deemed essential to the vital function of the hospital. Mechanics in this position are subject to various conditions that may result in burns, abrasions, cuts, and working in areas that are hot, cold, damp, dusty, dirty and potential for coming into contact with contaminated articles. Subject to possible injuries from falling off of ladders, scaffolds, etc. Maintenance Mechanics are required to wear uniforms and all personal protective equipment provided by the government and assigned to him as each situation warrants, such as eye, hearing, head, feet and respiration protective deviC8s. Some of the protective devices used by the position are uncomfortable and are Must be able to meet and deal with the public. Stress is a factor due to Engineering Service operations' constant turnover of employees, complexity, work environment, deadlines, numerous projects, and changing technological advances in the health care environmental management field.
