Responsibilities

The Mail Screening Aide is responsible for screening of mail and parcels for hazardous materials and improvised explosive devices. Screens all U.S. mail, courier deliveries, and packages destined for the Supreme Court building.

Qualifications

At least one year of work experience similar to the mail screening duties described above is required. Overall knowledge of x-ray machine operation. Must be able to accurately operate various chemical and biological detection equipment. Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion regarding safety and the proper use of equipment. Must be able to identify hazardous materials, improvised explosive devices, and follow prescribed decontamination procedures. Ability to properly use personal protection equipment. Must possess good general organizational skills. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and must be in good physical condition.

Education

A highly motivated individual with a high school diploma is required. Some college education is desirable.
