Summary

About the Position: Assists with implementation of the National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA) Visitor Services Program. This includes customer service, museum accessibility, and related programming, scheduling, coordinating and planning events, and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design of event set up requests and coordinate implementation of set ups/ tear downs with facility staff to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain close working relationships with administration, interpretive programs, education, and facility program components.
  • Support and maintains a service culture which is swift, comprehensive, and effective.
  • Assist with monitoring the effectiveness of the plans and ensures adequate coverage of all visitor services.
  • Define the level of services needed by the Museums visitors and designs programs that meet those needs, to include informational literature, regional information, special accessibility, greeting, public announcements, and special assistance.
  • Establish and maintains basic visitor assistance, sets visitor services program goals and objectives and insures the timely implementations of the program in coordination with the Chief, Visitor Services.

  • This Position requires Irregular duty hours, including holidays and weekends, may be required.
  • This Position May be expected to conduct work outside in support of Museum requirements in inclement weather, including exposure to extreme heat or cold.
  • This Position Incumbent will be required to work multiple hours without breaks, including working on their feet for up to four hours at a time.
  • This Position requires heavy lifting of 50LBS

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. This position is a TERM position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. This Definition of Specialized Experience is typical of word performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Specialized experience is defined as: Evaluating program effectiveness through data driven metrics to measure program effectiveness; providing operations 7 days a week, 364 days a year - using volunteer docents, museum staff, and organizational resources. Assisting with the design of event set up requested.

OR

Have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in afield which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Museum Study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least one year of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required two years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts

Have the experience as described in A AND the education described in B. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.

Specialized experience is defined as Coordinating the set ups/ tear downs with facility staff to ensure customer satisfaction; Recommending new and replacement equipment as needed; Conducting cyclical and annual inventories sufficient to ensure sound stewardship of resources.

OR

Have successfully completed a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Administration Management. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required three years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Specialized experience is defined as Assisting with monitoring the effectiveness of the plans to ensures adequate coverage of all visitor services; Developing procedures, methods, techniques, and other guidelines to support the Museum's visitor services; Assisting with developing staffing plans to ensure the Museum Welcome Desk is staffed properly; contributing to the improvement or expansion of museum programs, conditions, or functions
