Summary

This position is located in the Office of Strategic Intelligence and Information, Intelligence and Information Systems Division located in Washington, DC.

This position serves as Branch Chief, Violent Crime Intelligence Support Branch, in the Office of Strategic Intelligence and Information (OSII), Violent Crime Intelligence Division (VCISD). The VCISD manages information in both classified and unclassified environments and provides technology tool support for intelligence personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Exercises full supervisory authority over Branch personnel, which includes Information Technology Specialists, Program Analysts, Management Analysts, and support personnel.
  • Develops and implements Branch policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Conducts short- and long-term planning for overall Branch goals and objectives in response to changes in funding, policy, and legislative initiatives pertaining to branch programs and projects.
  • Plans and directs studies and surveys to evaluate Branch programs and ensure efficiency and economy of operations.
  • Prepares or oversees the research and preparation of analyses and reports to assess the overall state of the Bureau's technical systems and procedures as investigative priorities and activities are emphasized or changed by legislative action, Department of Justice mandates, or senior Bureau officials' initiatives.
  • Consults with the Bureau's technical information services and software experts throughout the development life cycle for an application.
  • Coordinate efforts for information technology development efforts within OSII.
  • Provides analysis related to data exchange in both the classified and unclassified environment. Evaluates and support the technology tools enabling Headquarters and Field Intelligence personnel to perform their mission.
  • Supports the Bureau¿s mission by coordinating nationwide access to interagency criminal history files in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS). Support is provided to the Counterterrorism Division, Criminal Intelligence Division, International Affairs Division, US Bomb Data Center, Violent Crime Intelligence Division and offices with the Bureau as needed. Serves as the division's primary point of contact with the Bureau's functional users of the systems.
  • Advises the division chief on issues pertaining to the branch, and participates in the Division's budget formulation process.
  • Represents the Bureau and the Division at conferences, meetings, and seminars in areas of responsibility as designated by the Chief.
  • Additional duties include responsibility for operating an aggressive safety program which includes training subordinates in safe practices; accident and fire prevention; encouraging good safety attitudes; identifying potential hazards in the job or work place; and ensuring prompt reporting of work-related accidents, injuries, illnesses, and their causes.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-14: You must have at least one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-13 Federal grade level. Specialized experience in leadership and teambuilding, decision making, reasoning, and problem solving. Experience utilizing intelligence databases; communicating orally in order to advise, consult and negotiate with management and users on information systems.
