Research Associate

The Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence (ACE!) within the Criminology, Law & Society Department at George Mason University (GMU) is seeking a researcher/administrator to support research at the interface between health and criminology. The position will be part of a new initiative funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse's (NIDA's) Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network (JCOIN). NIDA awarded GMU's ACE! a Coordination & Translation Center Grant to network the MARRC center at the University of Chicago and 10 JCOIN hub grants. This research associate will support work on studies that seek to further understand interventions that: interrupt offending and substance abuse; message about effective practices, substance abuse and risky behaviors, and, support the relationship between programs and outcomes. The individual hired will report to Dr. Danielle Rudes, Deputy Director of ACE! and will be located on GMU's Fairfax campus.

Responsibilities/Duties include: * Supporting work groups and a Steering Committee of scholars from various institutions, * Supporting PIs on acquiring and maintaining IRB approval, * Working on study protocols, creating and maintaining databases, * Conducting analyses, collaborating on research/technical publications, * Assisting in the design of new studies, * Assisting in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate research assistants and field staff, * Scheduling meetings, managing the project team calendar, and * Working with a variety of research/practitioner staff from around the U.S.

Required Qualifications: * At least two years of research experience * Excellent communication skills including writing and presentations * Detail-oriented with a focus on quality results and deliverables * Proficient in scheduling and communicating with a large team * Proficient in use and manipulation of MS Office software and statistics software * Bachelor's degree in related field

Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of and experience with SPSS * Project management/coordination * Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative skills * Human subjects (IRB) training prior to start date * Experience working with justice-involved populations * Master's degree in the social sciences, public health, public administration, public policy or criminology
