CSS is seeking a qualified post- doctoral candidate to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the US Naval Academy (USNA), Dept. of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (NAOE). The candidate will work on projects to investigate the mechanics and dynamic processes associated marine animal interactions with ocean deploy gear. Part of the research will include the advancement of techniques and potential engineering guidelines to prevent entanglement risk. The candidate should also be interested in the development of in-situ, ocean instrumentation to sense and respond to marine animal interactions. Qualifications Applicants must have earned a doctoral degree in a field related to Ocean or Mechanical Engineering . Candidates in a closely related discipline such as Naval Architecture, Civil/Environmental Engineering will also be considered. Practical experience conducting ocean-going fieldwork and/or physical modeling testing is preferred. The post-doc will be expected to conduct research in an independent manner. All candidates working onsite at a Federal facility must be able to pass a National Agency Check (NACI) and maintain it throughout the duration of employment.
