Radar Signal Processing Engineer
The Radar and Electronic Warfare Systems Development Group has an exciting opportunity for a radar signal processing engineer with a strong mathematical background, who is motivated to make critical contributions to our nation's defense in the area of phased array radars as applied to air and missile defense. In this position, you will be working in the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Section in the development of modeling and simulations (M&S) tools that evaluate performance of advanced digital phased arrays along with their associated radar signal and detection processing algorithms. Our government sponsors depend on us to use these proprietary computer models to conceive, test, and validate the signal processing and phased array architectures necessary for enabling the next generation of air and missile defense sensors. Duties: 1. Develop M&S tools in the areas of phased array antennas, digital beamforming (both fixed and adaptive), and radar signal processing. This work includes devising new algorithms to efficiently perform the necessary computations for assessing system-level performance. Expand upon existing software tools to grow simulation capabilities to address new problems and trade studies as the need presents itself. 2. Conduct trade studies for sponsor-based work in the areas of phased array radar and electronic protection, using existing, organically-developed M&S tools. Formulate the scientific approach behind the study and interpret the findings, together with documenting and presenting results. You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have Master's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in signal processing, communications, or control/linear system theory Strong MATLAB programming skills Coursework in Fourier analysis, statistical signal processing, detection and estimation theory, and linear algebra Minimum 3 years experience in modeling and simulation of phased array antenna, digital beamforming (fixed and adaptive), and radar signal processing. Ability to obtain a Secret clearance You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you Strong knowledge of antenna electromagnetic theory Familiarity with space-time adaptive processing (STAP) principles and algorithms Experience in Python and C/C programming Why work at APL?
