PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION Helper Cable Splicer Mechanic: Observes and assists higher classified employees in inspecting, installing, removing and splicing underground distribution systems cable and equipment Trainee Line Mechanic: Observes and performs routine manual functions in the performance of installation, rearrangement, operation, maintenance and repair of all Overhead, Transmission and Distribution Systems and associated equipment. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Ability and willingness to travel to various Company locations and job sites. Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments including: * all weather conditions * at extreme heights (above 30 feet, in a bucket, from scaffolding) * in very tight, confined spaces or enclosed vessels * below grade * in dark areas or areas with limited lighting * in extreme temperatures, foul water, mud, dust, noxious fumes, noisy and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) * in high traffic areas and pedestrian walkways Ability and willingness to perform both indoor and outdoor tasks for extended periods of time including: * lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 200 pounds with assistance * climbing ladders and scaffolding * bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking, and squatting * excavating trenches Ability and willingness to work on or around hazardous equipment/materials (for example, solder pots, open flames, heavy equipment, etc.), and/or energized electrical equipment. Ability and willingness to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and Company regulations (for example, ear plugs, helmets, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves and sleeves, hard hat, fire retardant clothing). Ability and willingness to work rotating shift work, on holidays and weekends, and overtime and be on call as required. Ability and willingness to wear a respirator and/or dust mask as required (eg, asbestos removal, dust, sprays/filings). Ability and willingness to apply resuscitation and render practical first aid. Ability and willingness to operate aerial lifts. Ability and willingness to distinguish among differently colored wires. Must live within a reasonable distance from the assigned District Office. Ability and willingness to comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations of the US Department of Transportation, (including being at least 18 years of age, physical certification, substance abuse testing, etc). Must possess a valid driver''s license. Must possess a CDL, Class A license and a DOT medical card OR the ability to obtain each within six months of hire date. Must successfully pass Construction and Skilled Trades, (CAST) qualification test. Must successfully complete a Task Specific Exercise, (TSE) that requires performing physically demanding tasks continuously throughout the test period, including removing manhole covers, climbing and working in a manhole, lowering a solder pot and tools into a manhole, rolling and pulling cable, and installing cable supports in a manhole. Must successfully complete an outdoor Physical Abilities Test, (PAT) that requires performing physically demanding tasks throughout the day, including climbing poles and working with and wearing heavy equipment. Ability and willingness to participate in the Cable Splicer/Transmission & Distribution training, and successfully complete step progression tests at each step in the progression to qualify for advancement. Ability and willingness to perform a second role in accordance with Pepco Holdings Emergency Preparedness Guidelines for all employees. Must successfully pass a medical screening to include a drug test Must successfully pass a Criminal History Background Check This position is a NERC Regulated position. As such, a background check will be conducted on the incumbent every seven years. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to complete annual NERC compliance training. PREFE by Jobble
