Marketing Analytics Specialist

George Mason University's Office of Communications and Marketing seeks an experienced Marketing Analytics Specialist to join its marketing team. This individual will be an expert in all things related to marketing data, social data, and test & learn. The position partners with academic units (i.e. schools, departments) non-academic units (i.e. housing, administrative offices), marketing, and communications units to provide reporting and insights.

The Marketing Analytics specialist will understand the fundamentals of the higher education marketing funnel. Additionally, they will be prepared to encounter a complex integration of marketing tactics in digital and traditional media, and have the flexibility and critical thinking skills to derive actionable data from integrated or disparate sources.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience developing measurement frameworks for search engine optimization (SEO), event tracking, campaign tracking, and outbound reach.

The Marketing Analytics Specialist is responsible for analytics tracking & reporting, online asset tagging, and UX pathing analysis. This key player role will own day-to-day management of web analytic tools and reporting, as well as optimization suggestions, and will test ideas to drive business growth. This position will also follow the latest trends in online advertising and will provide the user community with sound rationale in increasing return-on-investment. This position will contribute to the Office of Communication and Marketing's portfolio of training and customer support materials when required.

Responsibilities: * Work with analytics users across the University, develop and maintain a suite of best practices for marketing, reach, and SEO; * Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to define reporting requirements for the University's online properties, and translate those requirements into tracking strategies; * Interact with development teams to provide implementation requirements for Google Analytics and other tools as necessary; * Test and provide quality assurance feedback to the various development teams; * Provide reports and dashboards with insights that drive changes in individual units and across the University; * Stay abreast of web analytics trends, tools, and best practices. Lead efforts to research and evaluate new tools and capabilities in the analytics industry; * Perform ad-hoc analysis as necessary to answer business questions and drive decisions; * Serve as a liaison to vendor partners to ensure success with a variety of projects; * Report and analyzes website performance, online experience and engagement analytics; * Combine data from multiple platforms and independently produce actionable analysis/recommendations to drive strategy and improve website performance; * Responsible for the web analytics infrastructure, and for designing, interpretation, and delivery of comprehensive reports on website performance and engagement campaign metrics; * Work with management and stakeholders to identify requirements and delivery relevant/actionable analysis.

Required Qualifications: * A bachelor's degree in computer science, business analytics, marketing or relevant fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Substantial web analytics experience including knowledge of website design, HTML, javascript and analytics terminology; * In-depth knowledge of web analytics systems such as Google Analytics (strong plus) or Adobe Analytics; * Understanding of on-site survey methodologies and voice of the customer analysis using tools such as OpinionLab; * Understanding of basic website design and development; * Ability to talk to development teams about implementation requirements, basic experience in writing javascript code; * Proficiency in using Excel and PowerPoint; Strong knowledge of search; both SEO and SEM as a critical tactic to drive desired web visitor behavior; * Understanding of data visualization techniques; * Ability to translate complex technical concepts into layman's terms.

Preferred Qualifications: * Three years' direct experience in website design, HTML, javascript and analytics terminology.
