Assistant Director of Student and Young Alumni Programs

The George Mason University Office of Alumni Relations invites applicants for the Assistant Director of Student and Young Alumni Relations position. Responsibilities: The Assistant Director is part of a team of staff and volunteers dedicated to developing and strengthening lifelong relationships between alumni and George Mason University, with the goal of increasing their engagement with and in support of the university. The Assistant Director's primary responsibilities include managing student and young alumni programs; managing the Golden Quill Society (young alumni leadership society); and coordinating the Fall Program, a composite of fall events at Mason that will engage and connect alumni. The Assistant Director will also identify, cultivate, manage and steward alumni volunteers, and will work with special constituency populations and collaborate with various university departments, student organizations, University Life and other strategic partners to build affinity and increase alumni engagement.

Duties Include: * Oversee Student engagement and outreach by creating and executing strategies to engage entering, continuing and graduating students with alumni and programs with the goal of developing affinity, building pride, and creating pathways for a lifelong connection with the University. Manage programs such as Grad Transition activities - Grad Toast, Grad Fair, Graduation Celebrations and Commencement and facilitating alumni presence in new student orientations. * Oversee Young Alumni Program to increase engagement, event participation, volunteerism, and philanthropy of recent graduates, through targeted communications and programs, employing industry best practices; * Manage the Golden Quill Society, (Mason's Young Alumni Leadership Society) by cultivating leadership skills and creating a pipeline of alumni leadership, working collaboratively with academic units, University Life, and other strategic partners; * Manage Fall Programming by aggregating events across the university that are relevant and open to alumni and showcase the university. Collaborate with University Life (Family Weekend), Athletics (Mason Madness), Fall for the Book, University Libraries, alumni chapters and academic units; * Develop and/or maintain strong working relationships/partnerships with key University stakeholders, such as University Life, Student Involvement, and Academic Unit liaisons to maximize resources; * Assist assigned academic units and departments in assessing and developing alumni initiatives including seminars, workshops, and communication strategy; * Serve as a resource to assigned academic chapters/units in matters concerning chapter leadership that supports the unit's engagement opportunities and initiatives; * Evaluate programming and events in an effort to create a new, or revise existing strategies to increase engagement across all programming and events; * Develop a multi-channel communications plan for students and young alumni; * Input data and information into University-wide advancement databases/programs; and * Create, manage, reconcile and evaluate budgets for student and young alumni programs

Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Demonstrated years of professional experience; * Experience in alumni relations, higher education, event management, volunteer coordination, student affairs, development, public relations and/or marketing and/or other client-centered professions; * Excellent oral and written communication skills; * Professional demeanor and good presentation skills; * Exceptional interpersonal skills; * Ability to work autonomously and take initiative; * Experience in large-scale event planning and volunteer management; * Experience building and measuring success of programs; * Ability to work effectively with volunteers; * Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment with a diverse constituency; * Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service; * Possess an understanding of, and the ability to, articulate the accomplishments and goals of a complex organization; and demonstrate sound judgment necessary for interacting with alumni, volunteers, donors, board leaders, faculty, and staff; * Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting continuous deadlines; * Experience with budget management; * Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite; * Experience with databases/programs; and * Ability to travel and work evenings/weekends as necessary

Preferred Qualifications: * Master's degree; * Experience with iModules Encompass Enterprise or Constituent Management System; and * George Mason University alumnus/na.
