Assistant Director for the Mason Care Network

The Division of University Life's Mason Care Network is a hub for student engagement for all new freshman and transfer students. The Mason Care Network increases the retention rate and academic success of incoming students by helping students set and achieve academic, career, and personal goals and connecting students to campus and community resources. The Mason Care Network provides incoming students access to ongoing mentoring, advising, and coaching from professional and student staff that maintain university-wide and college-specific knowledge to ensure the success of Mason's incoming student populations.

Reporting to the Director for the Mason Care Network, the Assistant Director for the Mason Care Network specializes in the coordination and implementation of the Division of University Life's Mason Care Network. The Assistant Director supervises professional Success Coaches and works in collaboration with the other Assistant Directors for the Mason Care Network to assist in increasing the retention rate of first-year students.

Responsibilities: * Supervision and Leadership to a staff of professional Success Coaches who serve as constant and immediate source of support for students, highly visible, extremely accessible, well known, and available at Mason and online; ** Supervise, manage, and train professional staff coaching team consisting of approximately 8-10 coaches; * Management and accountability for coach/coachee matching process and data collection of coaching notes; ** Monitors coach caseload and student oversight, with attention to student progress and performance, problem areas, and intervention activities and processes for students; ** Assist with on-going benchmarking and best practices research of coaching programs at other institutions; * Maintains a small caseload of students, providing proactive advisement and coaching; * Encourage student participation in strategic initiatives of the university (i.e. Patriot Experience, Mason IMPACT, etc.); * Leverage technology to connect with and relay information to students throughout the first year; * Assist with the overall development, implementation, and management of the coaching program at George Mason University; ** Attend regular meetings with key stakeholders involved in the development and implementation of the program; * Other duties as assigned by Associate Director; ** Serve on committees and other projects as assigned by the Associate Director; ** Serve on the Patriot Success Intervention team.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience; * Knowledge of academic advising, orientation, disability services, veteran's services, career services, student involvement, and student rights and responsibilities; * Demonstrate leadership, communication, program development, and administrative skills in their previous experience and interview process; * Strong working knowledge of student transitional issues; * Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate with a variety of constituents and departmental stakeholders; * Work to meet deadlines, work accurately and quickly with attention to detail and be able to manage multiple complex programs and projects simultaneously; * Have a strong commitment to customer service; * Be able to manage conflicting and competing situations; * Be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staff; * Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours, particularly in the summer; * Experience in academic advising or working with student coaching programs; * Experience using social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Preferred Qualifications: * Have demonstrated leadership abilities and supervisory experience (various levels of supervision a plus- i.e. professional staff, graduate level staff and students); * Progressively responsible professional experience and leadership working closely with staff and undergraduate students (2-4 years preferred); * Experience with educational database management systems and customer relationship management systems (CRM).
