Photography Lab Manager

The George Mason University School of Art (SoA) is looking for a Photography Lab Manager to work with the coordinator of the photography program to oversee the operation and maintenance of the technical aspects specific to both traditional and digital photography labs and classrooms. This position coordinates with the SoA Technical Director in the operation and maintenance of the digital photography-specific classrooms and equipment. Responsibilities * Maintaining, repairing, cleaning, and inventorying cameras and lab equipment; * Managing and scheduling work-study students and lab monitors; * Assisting instructors and students; * Ordering and inventorying supplies; and * Day to day operations of darkroom. Required Qualifications * Ability to work independently in order to make decisions regarding the operation and maintenance of traditional photography equipment such as color processors and enlargers, b&w wet labs, and digital photographic equipment such as professional level printers and scanners; * A thorough understanding of film, digital, and video cameras; * Ability to oversee work-study assistants and assist students in the processing of film, paper, and other traditional skills; * A full understanding of the proper operations of digital equipment; * BA or BFA in Traditional and Digital Photography, Lens Based Media, Alternative Processes, or equivalent combination of education and experience; and * Must have at least a couple years of experience working in a photographic lab and working interactively with the public.
